Fox Valley Lutheran HS

The General Board of Fox Valley Lutheran High School met on the evening of September 26 and approved a building expansion proposal not to exceed $5.6 million dollars. This proposal was brought to the delegates of the 43 FVL Federation churches that own and operate the high school by the FVL Board of Regents. This move was necessitated by the growing enrollment at the high school which looks to climb to 700 over the next five years.  Current enrollment is 618, with projections for next year that could push enrollment over the 650 mark.

Working with the architectural firm of Somerville in Green Bay and construction management leadership of Catalyst Construction, the timeline for beginning the addition means construction will begin in March with the goal of having the addition ready by August 1.  The building project will feature renovation of current spaces as well as adding to the footprint of the school.

Focal points of the expansion include the addition of four classrooms as well as two new science labs at the southwest corner of the building.  One science lab will be outfitted to serve as the school’s new Bio-Medical Lab to help students preparing to enter health fields.  Another important part of the project is added security at the school’s front entrance and additional office and meeting space for teachers and staff.

The plan also calls for a smaller addition on the east side of the building where an additional Art Room is planned to supplement course offerings that are already full every period of the school day.  Next to the Art Room will be a large multipurpose classroom that will be used for numerous classes during the day and to serve cocurricular needs after school as well as being a place to host FVL community events.

Another key component of the expansion plan is the renovating of the Academic Resource Center (library) to better serve the needs of students and faculty since all students now are supplied with laptop computers as part of their tuition.  Also a number of interior classrooms will be repurposed to better serve the academic needs of students.

Financing plans and a capital campaign will commence within the next months as schematic plans are finalized with Somerville and bids are let under the continued guidance of Catalyst Construction.

Fox Valley Lutheran High School has been serving the Christian education needs of area families since 1953.  The current 63-acre campus on Appleton’s north side opened its doors in 2000.  A Metals Shop addition was completed in August 2016.  In the words of Principal Steve Granberg, “What a blessing that we can move forward on this exciting project . . . serving our growing student body with continued excellence in Christ-centered education.”
